Mahakumbh Mela 2025

On the banks of the holy river Ganga, this Kumbh Mela lasts in Prayagraj (Allahabad). This upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 will start on the 13th of January and will last till the 26th of February on Maha Shivratri, a period of 45 days.

In Hindu mythology, several myths are attached to this event. It is said that taking a bath at the Sangam of rivers eliminates negative influences and rejuvenates the mind and soul. The importance and significance of Kumbh Mela are written in the Rigveda, one of the four Vedas. One jaw-dropping fact about Kumbh Mela is that human gatherings in the Mela can be seen even from space. Isn't it startling?

Significance of Kumbh Mela 2025

Kumbh Mela holds considerable significance as it is described in ancient Hindu texts and early Puranas. This year, Kumbh Mela 2025 started on 14th January and lasted till 26th February in prayagraj. Kumbh Mela is considered one of the world's largest festivals, attracting a significant number of pilgrims.

According to Hindu mythology, the festival is celebrated on a definite set of astrological positions. According to astrological calculations, the Kumbh festival takes place when Jupiter enters the Aquarius constellation along with the Sun and moves to the Aries constellation at that specific time. Millions of devotees dip in the holy river and get liberated from their past sins.

History of Kumbh Mela

The history behind Kumbh Mela is also a tremendous mythological story. From the beginning, Kumbh Mela has its roots in Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), an episode of Hinduism described in the Vishnu Purana. It is said that while performing the Samudra Manthan to win Nectar, Devas and Asuras constantly struggled.

At the command of Lord Vishu, Garuda took the Nectar to prevent it. In the process of occupying the Nectar, demons decided not to share it with gods, which led to 12 days of chase. Lord Vishnu released some drops of immoral nectar, which were believed to have been dropped in haridwar, ujjainand, nasik, and Prayagraj.

The first Kumbh Mela was celebrated around 644 BC, and this ritual was begun by King Harshvardhan in present-day Prayagraj.

On the banks of the Ganges River, our tents are perfectly placed close to Sangam and Mela camps, ideal for taking photos, bathing in sacred waters, and strolling among vibrant Akharas. The place is full of captivating scenes and captivating moments. Our campsite is located approximately three kilometres away from the main Triveni Sangam, providing shuttle service for up to 2.5 kilometers. Public transport options, including e-rickshaws, are readily accessible as well.

King Harshwardhan started this ritual of celebrating Kumbh Mela around 644 BC.

The Next Kumbh Mela festival will commence on the 13th of January in 2025.
